Crystal's Story
DECEMBER 21, 2024
Crystal was diagnosed with 2 forms of Leukemia, ALL and AML called MPAL (Mixed Phenotype Acute Leukemia). A rare form of Leukemia where cancer cells exhibit characteristic of both Lymphoid and Myeloid Lineages. Crystal underwent several rounds of chemotherapy with lots of blood products and medications throughout the process. We were so blessed to have the support of an outstanding medical team at Levine's Cancer Institute in Charlotte. Dr. Shah and his team were exceptional in every aspect. I would like to mention the Mount Holly, CaroMont ER, they were the first to diagnose and sent her to Levine's. Your quick actions and coordination set Crystal on a path to comprehensive care she needed, for that we are deeply grateful.
Despite the hurdles of this health journey, this past year have been filled with an abundance of love, prayers, laughter, tears and cherished moments with family and friends. We cant thank our friends and family enough for everything you've done.
I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Krystal & Mike Helton, Steve & Michele Danner, Mickey Brooks, Chelsea Danner, Mckenzie Morrow, Anna Sperger, Matthew Morrow, Chirs Mckinnis, Todd Wiggins, Crystal's colleagues at CaroMont for donating PTO Time, All the Churches that had us on the prayer list and anyone else that donated money, gas cards and food gift cards to help us get through this difficult time. Your generosity and support has meant more than words can express.
My Inspiration
May 21, 2025, Crystal Has Been My Inspiration
On May 21, 2025 Crystal went into the hospital for a 30 day stay, the first week She received a strong dose of chemotherapy that took a toll on her hair and body. May 27th she would receive her new Birthday with a Stem Cell Transplant. The first few weeks were really good with little to no side effects. Then the 3rd week came and she starting losing her hair again and the side effects started kicking in and we both wondered if this was worth it. Her throat was raw and painful, the nausea and tiredness.
Over the next 70+ days she has faced a lot of nausea but its hard not too when you're taking 30 pills a day. Crystal is such an inspiration to me by facing this head on with strength and determination. I can't believe that this is our life sometimes but with friends and family we have gotten through this and were almost at the end of this thing called cancer. I want to thank God for putting us in the right positions with our jobs, our location (Charlotte area) and even having the right people in our lives!!
I know everyone has issue in their lives, marriages, jobs and just life itself but it's the way you handle it, push forward and whom you put your faith in...
